History

The Epidemiology Section of NCPHA was re-established on October 5, 2005 during the annual meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. Twenty-five existing members of NCPHA recommended re-establishing the section, and the NCPHA Governing Council approved this motion, which culminated in passage of section By-Laws and election of leadership on October 5, 2005.

Mission

The purpose of the Epidemiology Section of the NCPHA shall be to bring together all persons interested in public health epidemiology including agencies, academic centers, students, and other groups, for the purpose of fostering and stimulating:

  • A greater degree of opportunity for cooperation with all epidemiologists and those with an interest in public health epidemiology;
  • The promotion of joint planning among agencies, organizations, community groups, and businesses concerning public health epidemiology;
  • Improved understanding, integration, and promotion of public health epidemiology for all sectors of the population.

We are also seeking to encourage new recruits into the field of epidemiology, especially young professionals starting their careers in public health.
